The Chicago Sky selected forward Maddy Westbeld from Notre Dame with the 16th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Getting the chance to land a player as skilled as Maddy Westbeld in the second round is truly exciting. She can stretch the floor, put pressure on opponents defensively and made an impact on a great Notre Dame team with many talented players.”

Westbeld completed a five-year collegiate career at Notre Dame, where she averaged 12.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. She maintained a shooting percentage of 46.5% from the floor and 34.9% from three-point range over 141 games, starting in 138 of them. She was recognized with a First Team All-ACC nod in 2021 and Second Team All-ACC selections in 2023 and 2024. Her performance in 2024 contributed to Notre Dame's ACC title win, bolstered by her averages of 15.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, shooting 46.7% from three. Her achievements earned her a spot on the First Team All-ACC Tournament.

In addition to her college career, Westbeld has been active in USA Basketball’s 3x3 teams, participating in the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series U24 and the 2022 U23 Nations League teams.

The Chicago Sky, entering their 20th season in the WNBA under new head coach Tyler Marsh, have added players Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese, alongside offseason recruits Courtney Vandersloot and Ariel Atkins. The Sky's 2025 regular season starts on May 17 against the Indiana Fever in Indianapolis. For more news and ticket information, fans can follow the team on social media and their official website.
