The Chicago City Council has approved an ordinance that will allow Claretian Associates Inc. to purchase and redevelop 13 city-owned lots in South Chicago as part of the City Lots for Working Families (CL4WF) program.

The lots, which were made available for sale during the ChiBlockBuilder round starting in November 2022, are located along South Buffalo Avenue. The agreement is intended to enable new single-family or two-unit homes on these sites and return them to the city’s tax rolls.

Under the terms of the redevelopment agreement, Claretian Associates Inc. will acquire parcels at addresses including 8816, 8818, 8822, 8824, 8828, 8830, 8836, 8838, 8840, and 8842 S Buffalo Ave; as well as additional lots at 8943, 8945, and 9118 S Buffalo Ave. Each lot measures approximately 3,500 square feet with a width of 25 feet and a depth of 140 feet. The sale prices for the lots range from $8,792 to $10,524.

The CL4WF initiative is designed to support affordable housing development by making vacant land available for residential construction by local organizations.

According to city officials: “The project will allow new single-family or two-unit housing in South Chicago and return the properties to the tax rolls.”
