Jan Schakowsky, a U.S. Congress member representing Illinois' 9th district since 1999, has expressed her views on several political issues through recent tweets. Schakowsky's social media statements have addressed concerns regarding energy policies, veteran affairs, and Social Security under the current administration.
In a tweet dated March 5, 2025, Schakowsky criticized former President Donald Trump's energy emergency declaration. She stated that "Trump’s so-called energy emergency declaration is just an excuse to enrich the fossil fuel industry." She further claimed that Trump's plans involve bypassing the permitting process to advance LNG projects and oil and gas pipelines which could jeopardize drinking water and environmental health.
On the same day, Schakowsky commented on the impact of Elon Musk and DOGE on veteran services. She tweeted that "Billionaire Elon Musk and DOGE have gutted the Department of Veterans Affairs, leaving countless unemployed and restricting access to critical care for millions of veterans."
Continuing her criticism of government policies, Schakowsky addressed Social Security in another tweet posted on March 5, 2025. She emphasized that "Social Security is your hard-earned money; it is not an entitlement." Accusing Trump and Musk of trying to control Social Security disbursements, she warned them to reconsider their stance.
